CBS Posts Strong Numbers for Katie Couric Evening News

NEW YORK, September 7: CBS is hailing the early success of
the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric,
which has been the top network news broadcast for the past two nights.

The premiere of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric on Tuesday night attracted 13.59 million total
viewers, finishing number one for the night, trumping the NBC Nightly
News
(7.76 million viewers) and ABC's World
News
(7.58 million viewers). The 13.59
million total viewers are the most for the broadcast since February 16, 1998,
which occurred during CBS's coverage of the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano. The
debut marked the largest margin of victory in total viewers by CBS over both
NBC and ABC since at least September 1993, the first available date of daily
ratings in the CBS database.

Compared to the same night a year ago, CBS was up 75 percent
in households (9.1/17 vs. 5.2/10) and 84 percent in total viewers (13.59
million vs. 7.40 million).

Last night, meanwhile, the broadcast attracted 10.13 million
viewers, besting NBC’s 7.04 million and ABC’s 7.11 million.
