Canwest Names Interim Broadcasting Chief

WINNIPEG, November 18:
Peter Viner is coming out of retirement to take up the post of interim
president of Canwest Global Communications' broadcasting division, replacing
Kathy Dore.

In August, Dore announced
her intention to leave the company when her contract expires at the end of this
year. As president of Canadian television, Viner will have responsibility for
Canwest's conventional television operations across Canada as well as its 24
specialty channels.

Leonard Asper, the president and CEO of Canwest, said the move allows the company
to proceed with its business plan while continuing to search for a permanent successor
to Dore.

"This appointment
reflects a continuation of our strategy to transform our business with specific
focus on improving the conventional television model," Asper said.
"Peter has a proven track record of success for over 25 years with Canwest,
and is already working with the broadcast leadership group to ensure we keep
our momentum."

Viner stated: "I look
forward to working with the broadcast team to continue the work to transform
the business and address some of the challenges facing conventional television,
including the filing of our license renewals. We will be focused on our core
business and moving forward with the plans that have been developed over the
last year."

A former television sales
executive, Viner went from managing Vancouver television station CKVU-TV in
1992 to running Network TEN in Australia for five years. He returned to Canada
in 1997 to take up the post of president and CEO of Canwest Global for two
years. He went on to Canwest Publishing in 2001 and later served as president
and CEO of Canwest's Canadian operations, a post he held until his retirement
last year. Since then he has continued to serve Canwest in a consulting role
and is an active director on the Board of CWMedia, the legal entity that holds
the former Alliance Atlantis assets.
