LONDON: CAKE has acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the live-action sci-fi adventure series The Sparticle Mystery, which will air on CBBC starting in early 2011.

The 13×30-minute series features an all-child cast who are left "home alone" on Earth after a top-secret science experiment goes wrong. The result is that everyone over the age of 14 is transported to a parallel universe. The show follows the children as they attempt to bring back the grown-ups.

Tom van Waveren, the CEO and creative director at CAKE, commented: “The Sparticle Mystery is a strong property that combines science-fiction with gripping drama while, at its core, addresses how children acknowledge and deal with intangible loss, tracing their imagination and reactions when faced with enormous challenges. This deal is a strategic move for us as we broaden our live-action catalogue. There’s huge potential in The Sparticle Mystery and we look forward to the reception it achieves in territories around the world.”

Stephen Smallwood, the series’ producer, added: “The Sparticle Mystery is an adventure set in a world without adults—what child could resist that?”
