CABLEready Sells Tony Awards Internationally

NORWALK: CABLEready has secured a number of new sales and renewals for shows such as A Cook’s Tour, Inside the Actors Studio and the Tony Awards, which has been picked up by broadcasters in Japan, Latin America, New Zealand and Australia.

The Tony Awards, a three-hour live event recognizing achievements in live theater, went to MICO for NHK in Japan and Pramer for Film & Arts Channel in Latin America. Also signing on for the awards show were Sky Television for The Arts Channel in New Zealand and Foxtel for BIO Channel in Australia.

"The overall good news was that broadcasters were at MIPTV to conduct business and they were looking for the type of high-quality programming like the Tony Awards," said Sabrina Ayala, the VP of sales and marketing at CABLEready. "While an American event, the Tonys have broad global appeal as it showcases the best of Broadway, and broadcasters know their audiences will be drawn in by the dramatic performances and celebrity appearances."

Meanwhile, CABLEready scored renewals on A Cook’s Tour, featuring chef and author Anthony Bourdain, with Viasat for Sweden and Denmark and Chello Zone for the Zone Club channel in Eastern Europe. New episodes of Inside the Actors Studio were picked up by Pramer for Film & Arts Channel in Latin America, Noga Communications for Channel 8 in Israel and Sinema TV of Turkey.

Hollywood Dailies, which showcases Hollywood’s newest movie trailers, went to Nonstop Television for Star Channel in Scandinavia, Benelux and Eastern Europe, and NBC Universal for Hallmark Channel in Latin America. ZED/RTL on Belgium took on What Were You Thinking?, which presents the silly mistakes that occur in everyday life.

In Eastern Europe, Chello Zone renewed the rights for Picture This, a lifestyle series, for Zone Club channel. Nonestop Television took two additional ReelzChannel series, Spotlight and What I Learned from the Movies, for Star Channel in Scandinavia, Benelux and Eastern Europe. Sinema TV renewed Hollywood One on One, introducing actors up-close and uncensored.
