CABLEready Has Closed Deals With Six U.K. Networks

NORWALK,
November 21: CABLEready has sold several series and specials to six broadcasters in the
U.K.

ITV acquired
eight ep isodes of the urban legend investigation series Mostly True Stories, as well as the one-hour special Firefighters. History Channel U.K. picked up the
hour-long special The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping. Sky network acquired Phobia a series that looks into different
extreme fears and various methods for conquering those fears, as well as Wildlife
Detectives
, a series
that follows scientists and naturalists as they work to solve actual mysteries
affecting the earth’s ecosystem.

Five has
bought the irreverent documentary Combover: The Movie, which examines the history and
enduring popularity of the notorious hairstyle. Reality TV also picked up Combover:
The Movie
, as well as
the series Mostly True Stories. And Discovery U.K. renewed the forensic science mystery series Crime
Seen
.

"The U.K.
market is more competitive than ever, made evident by the sale of some of these
programs to multiple telecasters who will be alternating windows and
platforms," said Gary Lico, the president and CEO, CABLEready. “New customers are signing
on. Five U.S. debuted with Combover, and we're proud of that. There are changes going on
at ITV, and other customers are branching out – for example, Sky Travel is
pushing the envelope with Phobia. With so many changes at so many channels, all bets are off
in the U.K. Any channel can be a player for any program, and it's clearly
a madhouse for quality, non-fiction acquisitions in the U.K. these days.”
