ATLANTA: The brand-new BinWeevil integrated social VOD service is to feature a roster of hit programming from Cartoon Network as well as Nickelodeon.

Members of BinWeevil’s Bin Tycoon subscription service have access to more than 200 hours of on-demand TV content and can communicate and interact via an immersive social environment with avatar-based friends while they watch. The new social VOD offering will include Cartoon Network series such as Ben 10, Chowder and The Secret Saturdays. From Nickelodeon comes iCarly, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly Odd Parents and True Jackson. Further programming is sourced from Target Entertainment, DHX Media, Millimages and CAKE, with content continuing to be added.

Amelia Johnson, co-founder of BinWeevils, said: “The future of television is all about social interaction and on-demand viewing. Consumers either want to watch the same content their friends are watching, so they can chat about it online, or they want to watch what they want, when they want. This service is the first in the world that allows children to do both of those things in a safe and immersive online environment with the most popular TV shows.”

“Immersion and safety are at the heart of the BinWeevils platform, which is a fully interactive combination of virtual world, social gaming environment, video-on-demand platform and games arcade. It adheres to the highest standards of security and moderation and provides children with a trusted, relevant and targeted service in which to consume entertainment safely online,” added Johnson.

Jonathan Riesel, the digital distribution manager at Turner Broadcasting, commented: “This is a really exciting service, shown by the calibre of the launch partners on board. It talks to kids on their terms and serves content to them in a way that they understand and appreciate, and is an additional excellent route for kids to view and engage with some of our most popular shows. Convergence in its truest sense, it has all the hallmarks for success.”

Kiaran Saunders, the VP and commercial director at Nickelodeon UK, added: “We’re delighted to grow our existing relationship with BinWeevils into the subscription video on demand space. We are completely committed to being everywhere kids are on every platform. Delivering our ever-popular shows within the BinWeevils virtual world is a natural extension to our digital content strategy."

Richard Watney, the CEO of BinWeevils, remarked: “The launch of social VOD is a ground-breaking development that sets us apart from other services. This is the first time the most powerful trends in online entertainment have been pulled together into one integrated service.”

The company has also announced the appointment of Rod Henwood to its board. Henwood is a former board director of Channel 4 and was behind the launch of its 4OD service. He is also the former CEO of Project Kangaroo.

Henwood said: "I am very excited to be involved with a business that is growing so quickly by word of mouth. The partnerships it has formed with global brands such as Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network will take it to the next stage of development and differentiate it from its competitors. Adding top-quality TV shows to the current entertainment experience on BinWeevils will further establish our leading position in the children’s digital world.”
