BBC Worldwide Americas Secures Doc, Drama Deals

RIO DE JANEIRO, September
18: BBC Worldwide Americas has licensed more than a 100 hours of drama and
natural history programming to Hallmark Latin America and U.S. Hispanic network
Galavision.

Hallmark Latin America has
acquired a package of BBC Worldwide’s dramas including seasons one and two of Robin Hood, which combines incredible swordplay and timeless romance, and Bleak
House
, starring Gillian Anderson
and Charles Dance in a take on Charles Dickens’ novel. Other titles include Hannibal, Crime &
Punishment
and David
Copperfield.

Fabian Vázquez, the
director of programming and acquisitions at Hallmark Channel for Latin America
said: “It has been extremely rewarding for us to close this important
partnership with BBC Worldwide, since we are permanently in the search of novel
and high quality shows, as is the case with Robin Hood, which allows us to differentiate from our
competitors throughout our territory. We trust BBC productions, since they are
well taken care of with excellent scripts and we hope this relationship to
continue for a long time.”

Galavision, which
currently reaches 86 percent of U.S. Hispanic homes, has picked up a package of
natural history fare, including Wild South America, an exploration of South American wildlife; Wild
India
, which examines the array of
plants and animals that cover the Indian subcontinent; as well as Great
Natural Wonders of the World
, Shark
Encounters
, Wild Africa and Tiger's Fortress.
