BBC, Nick Lead BAFTA Children’s Nominations

LONDON, October 22: The BBC dominated the nominees for the
BAFTA Children’s Awards—set to be presented at a ceremony at the London
Hilton on November 25—followed by Nickelodeon UK.

The BBC’s CBeebies is up for Channel of the Year, alongside
Nickelodeon UK, Nick Jr. UK and Scamp.

In the Animation category, the BBC’s Charlie and Lola
Christmas Special
is up against two other
BBC shows—The Secret Show and
Shaun the Sheep—and Jetix’s
Oban Star Racers.

The BBC also dominates the Drama category, with Byker
Grove
, Jackanory—The
Magician of Samarkand
and That
Summer Day
competing with CiTV’s My
Life as a Popat
.

In the Entertainment category, nods went to Raven (CBBC), Skatoony (Cartoon Network), The Slammer (CBBC/CBBC) and Stwffio (S4C).

Five’s A Different Life: Working To Live is up for the factual category with CBBC’s Evacuation and The Wrong Trainers and Nickelodeon’s Nick News: See
Something, Say Something

Contenders for best preschool animation are CBeebies Charlie
and Lola
, Five’s Little Princess, Nick Jr.’s Peppa Pig and CiTV’s Pocoyo; while for live-action preschool they are Nick Jr.’s
Bubble and Squeak, CBeebies AutumnWatch and In the Night Garden and CiTV’s Jim Jam and Sunny.

In the Interactive category, the CBeebies website is facing
off against the websites for the BBC kids’ shows Me and My Movie, In the Night Garden and The Secret Show.

LazyTown is vying for
the best international show award with Lockie Leonard from Australia and SpongeBob SquarePants and Yin Yang Yo! from the U.S.

In the feature film category, the contenders are Bridge
To Terabithia
, Flushed Away, Happy Feet and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Up for independent production company of the year are
Aardman, The Foundation, Tiger Aspect Productions and Twenty Twenty Television.
