Argumental Commissioned for a Third Season

LONDON: UKTV’s Dave has commissioned a third season of the comedy panel show Argumental, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, while BBC Two signed on for four episodes for its fall schedule.

BBC Two has taken on four episodes from the second season of Argumental to premiere on the terrestrial channel this fall. Produced by Tiger Aspect exclusively for Dave, Argumental is hosted by John Sergeant, with team captains Marcus Brigstocke and Rufus Hound. The series features debates on topical issues. This third season will be executive produced by UKTV’s Lisa Perrin alongside Tiger Aspect’s Gary Chippington and Clive Tulloh, with Dominic English as producer.

Matthew Littleford, UKTV’s controller, commented: “Going forward, we will now be focusing our energies on investing in developing innovative formats for Dave that evolve the stand-up genre, such as Argumental. This change in focus also means we won’t be renewing Live at the Apollo. The fact that Argumental has been picked up by BBC Two is a huge compliment to both UKTV and Tiger Aspect for developing what has proven itself to be a hugely successful and truly unique stand-up comedy format.”

UKTV’s director of entertainment commissioning, Lisa Perrin, said, “The fact that we’re recommissioning Argumental for a third successive series is testament to Tiger Aspect’s ability to develop and produce entertaining, returnable comedy formats.”

Tiger Aspect’s director of presenter-led programming, Gary Chippington, added, “We are delighted to be working again with the team at Dave. John, Marcus and Rufus have really stamped their identity on the channel and have made Argumental a must-see, homegrown show for Dave’s comedy-savvy audience.”

Dave’s channel head, Steve North, commented, “Developing original formats which allow us to put our own ‘Dave’ spin on stand-up has become a real focus and it’s tremendously satisfying to see our ambitious commissioning strategy bearing fruit with strong ratings and a terrestrial window for Argumental.”
