Amazon.com Launches Digital Video Service

SEATTLE, September 8: Amazon.com has launched Amazon Unbox,
a digital video download service delivering TV shows, movies and other content
from more than 30 partners in the U.S. and around the world.

The service promises DVD-quality picture, and allows
customers to buy from one PC and download to another. To promote the service, Amazon.com
is offering a free download for first-time users, at www.amazon.com/unbox. Content can be viewing
on a PC and on a Windows Media-compatible portable device. Further, content can
be viewed before it’s completed downloading.

"Amazon Unbox offers TV and movie enthusiasts a fast,
convenient way to watch thousands of their favorite videos from around the
world," said Bill Carr, Amazon.com's VP of digital media. "Now
Amazon.com customers can choose to get videos delivered to their doorstep from
Amazon's DVD store or choose Amazon Unbox and download DVD-quality picture
movies or television shows to their PC."

"Amazon has built the ultimate solution for anyone who
has ever had a friend or coworker tell them that they missed a great TV show
last night," Carr continued. "Now customers can visit Amazon.com
while at work and download DVD-quality TV shows and movies to their PC at home
or wherever it is most convenient for them to watch."

Offerings include current hits such as CSI, Numb3rs,
24 and Prison Break. From September 14 through September 27, all of the
final, cliffhanger episodes from last season's CSI, CSI: Miami and CSI:NY will be
available for $0.01 to celebrate the launch of the season for all three series.
Unbox will also showcase classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly
and Star Trek, with all 79
episodes of the original series as well as the pre-William Shatner pilot.

Unbox also offers content from cable networks such as
A&E, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, FX and several channels from MTV
Networks, including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV and VH1. HGTV, Fine Living
TV Network and VH1 are three networks making their digital download debut.

Movies available on Unbox include recent releases such as V
for Vendetta
, Inside Man, Failure to Launch, RV
and Walk the Line as well as
library features like Ben Hur, Chinatown and Poseidon Adventure. Deals are in place with 20th Century Fox, Paramount
Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment and
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, as well as Focus Features, Fox Searchlight and
Lionsgate.

International content on Unbox includes the Korean period
drama The Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-shin;
the BBC comedy Coupling; Hong
Kong's Hand of Death, directed by
John Woo and starring Jackie Chan, and Japan's Escaflowne.

Unbox customers can purchase television series for $1.99 per
episode, and most movies for between $7.99 and $14.99. Movies are also
available for digital rental for $3.99 each.

The participating television networks are A&E, Adult
Swim, Animal Planet, BBC, The Biography Channel, Cartoon Network, CBS, Comedy
Central, Discovery Channel, Discovery Health Channel, Discovery Kids, E!
Entertainment Television, Fine Living TV Network, FOX, Fuel TV, FX, HGTV, The
History Channel, KBS from Korea, Logo, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, The N,
PBS, Speed, Spike, Travel Channel, TV Land and VH1.

The BBC alone is offering nearly 400 hours to Unbox,
spanning comedy, drama, science fiction, documentaries and news. Key titles
from BBC Worldwide include Little Britain,
Yes, Minister, Emma, Jane Eyre, Blue Planet
and
classic Doctor Who. BBC World will also soon be making a range of BBC
news and topical programming available to Amazon Unbox customers. The line-up
will include This Week, a chronicle
of the past week's headlines; and Reporters, a showcase of the work of the BBC's global network
of 250 correspondents.
