A Note from the Editors

NEW YORK: A rundown of all the exclusive interviews, including with celebrities and top-level executives, and insightful trend features you’ll find in the MIPCOM issue, which, at a whopping 732 pages, is our biggest ever.

All of us at World Screen know that watching TV is a bit of a prerequisite for our jobs. We also happen to be fans—proper, die-hard, “Did you see that episode last night?” watchers of so much of the great content being created across every genre today. So, this edition was quite the treat, as we were able to spotlight a slew of actors and actresses lighting up screens across the globe.

As the ink was still drying on our ambitious MIPTV edition—which featured Emmy winner Viola Davis on the cover and our powerful 30th Anniversary Report—we set ourselves a lofty challenge for the MIPCOM issue. Could we secure interviews with the stars of ten of the hottest shows today, across broadcast, cable and digital? As it turned out, we could, and we topped ourselves by landing interviews with 13 of TV’s biggest names: Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones—which is fresh off its record Emmy wins—The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies, Masters of Sex’s Michael Sheen, The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln, Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi, Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, American Horror Story’s Kathy Bates, The Affair’s Dominic West, Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor, Gotham’s Ben McKenzie, Madam Secretary’s Téa Leoni, The Catch’s Mireille Enos and Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra. Accompanying this set of Q&As is an insightful report by Elizabeth Guider on how broadcasters, agents and producers are managing talent in this new golden age of television.

And our star power doesn’t stop with drama; we hear from pop star and fashion icon Gwen Stefani in TV Kids; and Brian Cox, Bear Grylls and Idris Elba in TV Real. We also have some big behind-the-scenes names, including Greg Berlanti, who has six network shows this season; British screenwriter Andrew Davies; and The Amazing Race’s co-creator, Bertram van Munster.

You’ll also find our signature in-depth, comprehensive interviews with the media industry’s top executives, including Time Warner’s Jeffrey Bewkes, Fox’s Dana Walden and Gary Newman, ZDF’s Thomas Bellut and many others.
