A Note from the Editors on Our MIPTV Edition

NEW YORK: It’s a refrain you’ll hear over and over again among media executives this MIPTV: television, and drama in particular, has never been better than it is today. Against that backdrop, it was clear to us at World Screen that we needed to launch a new targeted publication focused exclusively on this lucrative genre. TV Drama makes its debut in our MIPTV edition, which, as it turns out, is our most successful April issue ever, at a whopping 512 pages!

Speaking of high-quality drama, we were fortunate enough to speak with the talent involved in three of today’s hottest series, on both sides of the Atlantic. Gracing our front cover is David Tennant, the star of ITV’s megahit Broadchurch, who has now crossed the pond to front Gracepoint, the American version of the Shine Group series. We also spoke with Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope in ABC’s buzz-generating Scandal. Fans of Lost and Person of Interest are in for a treat as we speak with the actor Michael Emerson about his enigmatic roles in both of those popular series.

Our main feature in this ambitious issue, meanwhile, sets its focus on the power of pay TV. Our contributing editor, Elizabeth Guider, wrote an insightful piece on how the major U.S. media companies are tapping into their treasure troves of content to build successful pay-TV channel businesses globally. Anna Carugati, our group editorial director, meanwhile, had extensive conversations with the heads of some of the world’s top pay-TV channel brands.

Here’s a full rundown of what you’ll find in this issue, which we couldn’t be more proud of. Follow the links below to access our digital editions online or on your iPad.
