HISTORY HD Expands Central European Presence

NEW YORK/LONDON: Romania is the latest territory in Central Europe to receive HISTORY HD, alongside previous launches in Poland, Hungary, Serbia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, among others.

The Romanian-language service for HISTORY HD will launch on UPC on October 1. The standard-definition feed is already available on UPC, having launched in February. HISTORY HD will offer a separate schedule from HISTORY. Some of the programs to be broadcast in high definition include The Universe, Modern Marvels, Ice Road Truckers and Ancient Discoveries.

“We are very pleased to launch HISTORY HD on UPC in Romania,” said Tom Davidson, the managing director of AETN UK. “No matter if our audience is watching the barbarian battles of the past or exploring deep space disasters, HISTORY HD brings the story to life in stunning HD.”

“UPC has established itself as the leading television platform in Romania, and we are continuing this trend by being the first to offer a High Definition television service nationwide,” added Iulia Florea, the billing and collection director at UPC Romania. “According to market studies, the penetration rate of HD Ready and Full HD TV sets in Romania is 10 percent, so we expect to see an increase in subscriber demand for HD. We believe that our current and future customers will enjoy the premium services offered by UPC."
