ITV Studios Scores New Canadian Drama

LONDON/TORONTO: ITV Studios, Global Entertainment has shored up the international distribution rights to Shaftesbury Films’ new drama series Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures.

Set to be launched at MIPCOM, the 8×1 hour series is based on the bestselling award-winning book by Dr Vincent Lam, an emergency room doctor from Toronto. This new drama takes an honest look at life and love today through the lens of modern-day medicine. The show is penned by playwright Jason Sherman (Murdoch Mysteries, ReGenesis). It is set in a busy Toronto hospital and focuses on three young doctors, played by Byron Mann (Dark Angel), Mayko Nguyen (ReGenesis) and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men).

Noel Hedges, the head of drama acquisitions and co-productions at ITV, said “We’re thrilled to again be working with Shaftesbury on Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures, this unique take on the medical drama combines all the tensions of a hospital setting and the emotional ups and downs of a moving relationship drama, executed with a unique sense of individual style. It will hook audiences from the start.”
