Imira Takes European Distribution for Karkú

BARCELONA: Imira Entertainment has scored a deal to represent TV rights for the live-action tween/teen series Karkú in Europe.

The 76×26-minute series, produced by Chilean outfit My Friend Entertainment in co-production with Televisión Nacional de Chile, will debut at MIP Junior. The show is already a success in Latin America, where it airs on Nickelodeon Latin America, TVN in Chile, Ecuavisa, Señal Colombia, Televisa in Mexico and in Brazil. It also airs in the U.S. on the Spanish-language Sopresa.

Karkú follows the adventures a 13-year-old girl who is sent to live in Santiago. She and her new school friends embark on a plan to make money for a trip overseas, and they all quickly become entrepreneurs.

Sergi Reitg, the managing director of Imira Entertainment ,said: “The addition of Karkú to our distribution catalogue underscores Imira’s goal of being a link between Europe and Latin American producers and broadcasters, in both directions. We’re thrilled to reach our goal with such a quality program as this, and we are delighted to partner with My Friend Entertainment. Up until now, it has been mainly European programs that were crossing over to Latin American. Now, due to Imira Entertainment’s distribution capacity and the openness of the European market to Latin American youth programs, we are confident that Karkú will set a new trend in the opposite direction. Imira plans to further expand its third-party catalogue of Latin American programs for Europe, and is also exploring the possibility of taking part in co-productions.”

“We are very happy to present Karkú to Europe, where we are confident that it will prove a success because it recognizes universal values such as entrepreneurship, true friendship and team work,” added José Fco García, creator of the series.

Further highlights on the Imira slate for MIPCOM include Sandra the Fairytale Detective, an adventure series combining magic, mystery and humor. The series is co-produced with TVE and DQ Entertainment, Imira has scored presales to TF1, Disney Channels in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and India and RTP in Portugal.
