Profit Falls at DIRECTV

EL SEGUNDO: The DIRECTV Group—with a subscription base of 24.2 million in the U.S., Latin America and Mexico—upped its revenues in the second quarter by 9 percent to $5.2 billion, but net profit was down 11 percent to $407 million.

At the U.S. platform, there were 224,000 net subscriber additions to end the period with 18.3 million, a 7-percent year-on-year increase. Revenues were up by 8 percent to $4.54 billion and ARPU increased to $83.16.

In Latin America, subscriber growth slowed to 128,000 and churn increased to 1.91 percent. The customer base increased 14 percent to 4.16 million. Revenues gained 11 percent to $680 million.
