True Blood Makes Strong Return

NEW YORK: The vampire drama True Blood launched into its second season on HBO on Sunday, drawing in 3.7 million viewers to become the premium cable network’s most watched program since The Sopranos‘ season finale in June 2007.

Sunday’s 9 p.m. airing was up 157 percent compared to the series’ premiere and 51 percent in comparison to the first season finale. When added to the 11 p.m. airing, True Blood had 5.1 million viewers, also the largest Sunday gross audience for the series. Produced by Alan Ball, the creator of Six Feet Under, True Blood is based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series (known as The Southern Vampire Mysteries) by Charlaine Harris. The show details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small northern Louisiana town.
