Name Change for ER

NEW YORK/LONDON: The Entertainment Rights name is being dropped, with the group rebranding as Classic Media, following last month’s takeover by Boomerang Media and private-equity group GTCR.

Last month, Boomerang Media teamed with GTCR to acquire ER and its Classic Media and Big Idea subsidiaries. Boomerang is headed up by Eric Ellenbogen and John Engelman, who founded Classic Media and then sold it to ER for some £107 million in 2007.

The business will operate as Classic Media across its U.K. and U.S. offices (Big Idea, however, the producers of VeggieTales, will operate under its own name.) The company is heading into Licensing International Expo in Vegas next month with properties such as Tinga Tinga Tales, Guess with Jess, Postman Pat, The Lone Ranger, Casper the Friendly Ghost and Peter Cottontail.
