NHK Joins Freesat U.K. Lineup

LONDON/TOKYO: NHK World TV, the English-language news and information channel from the Japanese pubcaster NHK, is joining the Freesat lineup in the U.K., effective tomorrow.

Available in the "News and Sport" section of the EPG, the channel targets English speakers with programming about Japan and the rest of Asia, from current affairs to pop culture. "The launch on Freesat will offer viewers in the U.K. a new way to enjoy NHK World TVs unique, alternative perspective: Your Eye on Asia," said Makoto Harada, the director-general of the service, which is already available in the U.K. on BSkyB.

Freesat, operated by the BBC and ITV, overs some 140 TV, radio and interactive channels, without a monthly subscription fee.
