CANNES: At the International Digital Emmy Awards at MIPTV last night, Australia took home the top prize for fiction, while the U.K. scored in the non-fiction and children and young people categories.

The International Digital Emmys, organized by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in partnership with Reed MIDEM, were presented during the MIPTV opening festivities in Cannes last night. The awards ceremony was attended by more than 200 international executives and was sponsored by Zillion TV.

Australia won its first International Digital Emmy in the fiction category with Scorched, a futuristic interactive online drama set in a world ravaged by climate change.

Britain From Above, a joint television and online project using technology to present a bird’s eye view of the nation, won in the non-fiction category.

The cross-platform project Battlefront, which followed 20 teenagers running campaigns to change the world, won for children and young people.

“This year’s winners have truly embraced the creative and technological opportunities that the digital space presents,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We congratulate them on their cutting-edge achievements.”
