Endemol Preps ‘Spectacular Entertainment’ for MIPTV

CANNES: Endemol International is promising "Spectacular Entertainment" with its slate of formats at MIPTV this week, derived from its operations in key markets around the world.

Leading off the highlights is The Whole 19 Yards, a game show from Endemol UK that is currently being piloted by Endemol USA. Players compete to win a big cash prize by answering general knowledge questions—the twist is that to answer the question, contestants must traverse 19 yards and several obstacles to reach the buzzer.

Someone’s Gotta Go focuses on small businesses, with the boss giving the power to the employees to decide who deserves to be paid more, paid less and fired. The show has already been commissioned in the U.S.

From Endemol France is Big Bang, where contestants avoid pressing the button that is booby trapped. From Endemol’s creative team in Germany is Have I Told You Lately, a feel good show that takes a group of romantically challenged males and trains them to perform a love song together. Also joining this year’s line up of new entertainment formats is The Candidate.

Tom Toumazis, the chief commercial officer of Endemol Group, noted: "This year we are launching a new generation of shows under the banner ‘Spectacular Entertainment’ and that’s exactly what they are. This is an exceptionally strong lineup of formats that promise to pack in drama, emotion and jeopardy and we are expecting them to be in big demand at MIPTV."
