New MD for NBCU Global Networks in Russia

MOSCOW: Merab Gabuniya has been named managing director for Russia at NBC Universal Global Networks, effective immediately.

In this newly created role, Gabuniya will play an integral part in establishing and growing NBC Universal’s entertainment channels across the country, as well as enhancing NBC Universal Global Network’s relationships with affiliate platforms and advertising sales clients. He will report Colin McLeod, the managing director for Global Networks in Central and Eastern Europe.

Gabuniya will be supported by Alla Prokhorova, the marketing communications manager for Russia. The two will work closely with the London-based Global Network’s Central and Eastern Europe team in driving the business goals for the NBCU channel brands in Russia.

Prior to NBC Universal Global Networks, Gabuniya was deputy director of the AFK Systema group. He established Russia’s first IPTV platform, Stream TV’ led Systema’s VOD project and was head of production and distribution of the first thematic channels in Russia.
