Russian Movie Channel Heads to Time Warner Cable

STOCKHOLM: Viasat Broadcasting has launched the premium movie channel TV1000 Russian Kino to Time Warner Cable customers in the New York City region.

Broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week, TV1000 Russian Kino airs original Russian movies, ranging from classic titles such as Wedding in Malinkova and The Adventures of the Electronic to more recent blockbusters like Valery Todorovsky’s Stilyagi and Tiski, Andrei Zvyagintsev’s Izgnanie and Mikhail Porechenkov’s Day D. The channel is currently available in Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Ulrik Bengtsson, the CEO of pay TV for emerging markets at the Modern Times Group, commented: "The continuous rollout of our Russian premium pay-TV channel in the United States is a natural next step in the development of our wholesale channel offering. The inclusion of the channel in the offering from the second-largest cable operator in the U.S. further demonstrates the quality and potential of our channel portfolio. This combination of high quality Russian-produced premium content, which has proved so successful across Central and Eastern Europe, is unique and we are confident that it will prove just as appealing to Russian-speaking viewers in the United States."
