NFB Closes DVD, TV Deals at MIPCOM

MONTREAL, October 23: The
National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has secured a new deal for DVD sales in the
U.S., as well as a number of agreements with private and public broadcasters
around the world, including Italy’s RAI.

The NFB struck a U.S. DVD
distribution deal with BFS Entertainment & Multimedia for ten
documentaries, including Under the Hood, A Voyage into the World of Torture, Confessions of an Innocent Man and Whale Mission: Keepers of Memory.

SBS Australia took on the
three-part series The Dark Years,
while Italy’s RAI acquired Up the Yangtze and Four Wings and a Prayer. Italian distributor GA&A picked up the television rights to the
documentary Paris 1919, and
South Korea’s EBS also purchased Up the Yangtze.

Discovery/Animal Planet
acquired Wild Horse Redemption
for the British, Italian, German, Japanese and Taiwanese markets. Triage:
Dr. James Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma
, The Invisible National and
Under the Hood: A Voyage into the World of Torture all went to Al Jazeera Satellite Network.

Turner Broadcasting System
Latin America purchased Miracle Body, Confessions of an Innocent Man, Triage: Dr. James Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma and Hannah’s Story, as well as several other titles, including Jeu, Uncle Bob’s Hospital Visit, Engine 371, Paradise and Sainte
Barbe
. Poland’s TVP scooped up Sleeping
Betty
, Uncle Bob’s Hospital
Visit
and Madame Tutli-Putli.
