Cartoon Network to Bring Children’s Horror Book Series to TV

ATLANTA, October 21:
Cartoon Network has partnered with digital entertainment studio Worldwide
Biggies to adapt the nonfiction children’s horror book series NASTYbook into a live-action/CGI film.

From storyteller Barry Yourgrau, NASTYbook features tales with scary twists and mischief, with a
cast of characters that includes an Internet-trolling witch and an actual alien
exchange student. The books are similar to that of the classic series The
Twilight Zone
, but skewed for a young
audience. A range of web content based on NASTYbook is also planned.

“Cartoon Network is
thrilled to be doing business with Albie Hecht and Worldwide Biggies,” said
Ramsey Naito, the VP of long-form at Cartoon Network.

“With the NASTYbook television movie, we are truly reinventing the
horror genre for the younger demographic," added Albie Hecht, the CEO and
founder of Worldwide Biggies. “By taking the twisted tales in Barry Yougrau’s
books, combining them with the suspense and horror elements of today’s movies,
and utilizing new CGI and innovative special-effects technology, we are
effectively able to bring movie-quality thrills and chills to the small
screen.”

This is the latest movie
to join Cartoon Network’s growing development slate, which includes Tiger’s
Apprentice
, Firebreather, The Vanishers, Mice Templar and the sequel to the network’s live-action hit movie Ben 10.
