News Corp. Ramps Up Indian Investment

MUMBAI, August 4: News
Corporation is planning to invest some $100 million on six new regional
television stations in India, the company’s chairman and CEO, Rupert
Murdoch, indicated while on a visit to Mumbai today.

"I'm guessing the
investments will be in the region of $100 million, and we will launch the
channels within 12 months," Murdoch is quoted as saying in local press reports.
"All these channels will be under the STAR brand."

India has become STAR’s
biggest success story in the region, with its STAR Plus entertainment channel
maintaining its lead in the increasingly competitive Hindi-language
entertainment space.

Murdoch was in town for
the launch of the Dow Jones India Titans 30 Index, which will gauge the
performance of share prices in India’s leading firms.
