Outright Scores Deals in Canada

LONDON, July 11: Outright Distribution has completed deals
with TV Ontario and W Network in Canada for several factual productions.

TV Ontario has purchased Admission Impossible, season three of Born to Be Different, Mummy Diaries and My New Home, all
from Ricochet, in addition to season two of Child Genius from Wall to Wall. Both Ricochet and Wall to Wall
are part of the Shed Media Group, the owner of Outright Distribution.

Admission Impossible,
in two hour-long episodes, follows the lives of parents and their children as
they try to overcome the obstacles of entry exams, low incomes and intense
competition to attend different schools. The two-part program Born to
Be Different,
a seven-year television
project, follows the lives of six children born with disabilities. The three
episodes of Mummy Diaries feature
consultant clinical psychologist Julie Stokes as she helps mothers with
incurable illnesses say goodbye to their children. Through a series of new
techniques, she also helps the children cope with what is happening. The
2×50-minute My New Home explores
the lives of immigrant children from Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan as they
start new lives in the U.K. The show follows the children over a five-year
period. Child Genius, a
feature-length documentary divided into two hour-long parts, features the lives
of Britain’s most gifted children. The show intends to revisit the children
every two years.

W Network bought Open House from Ricochet. The 20-episode half-hour show explores how the “open
day followed by bids” method of selling homes, which is common in the U.S.,
Australia and New Zealand, is done in the U.K. The show began airing on W July
10.

Jess Khanom, the VP of sales for Outright Distribution in
Canada, said: “Business is undoubtedly getting increasingly brisk for us in
Canada. Following on from last year’s sales of Luxury Unveiled and Counter Culture to CTV’s Travel and Escape Channel, negotiations are
currently well under way with other major broadcasters for a broad range of
other properties on our slate.”
