SPTI to Highlight New Format Slate at DISCOP

LONDON,
June 9: Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) will be showcasing a
number of new formats at DISCOP this month, headlined by the Rose D’Or-winning
game show Power of 10.

Since its debut on CBS in
August 2007, Power of 10 has
been licensed into more than 25 countries around the world, including Poland,
Russia, Ukraine and Croatia. Created by television
producer Michael Davies of Embassy Row Productions, Power of 10 is a studio-based game show in which contestants put their
knowledge of public thinking and opinion to the test. Using questions based on
large-scale professional polling results, Power of 10 covers all aspects of each country’s opinions on topics
from politics to pop culture.

SPTI is also bringing to
the market two prime-time entertainment formats from its collaboration with
Tuvalu Media—The 100: Marriage and Twinzz—along
with Shine’s What Are You Like?

The 100: Marriage follows 100 couples from all walks of
life that are all about to wed, from the proposal through to the post-wedding
aftermath. The show premiered in the Netherlands on February 28, where
it attracted more than a million viewers and gained a market share of 17.7
percent. The 100 is a franchise
format that will be adapted to cover topics ranging from adopting a baby,
surviving a life-threatening illness, setting up a new business or moving to a
new country. Ten episodes of the show were produced for season one, with a
second season on the theme “Singles In Love” due to air in fall 2008.

Also available to buyers
at DISCOP is the family talent show Twinzz, from Tuvalu Media in partnership with music
producer Ferdi Bolland. The format, which charts
the search for the most talented identical twins to form a music band,
premiered on March 13 in the Netherlands with more than 800,000 viewers.

From Shine comes What
Are You Like?
, which is due to air
on BBC One later this summer. The show sees two teams of well-known
personalities battle to correctly guess how other celebrities would react in a
given situation. In the U.K., What Are You Like? is hosted by the BBC’s Fiona Bruce and features an
eclectic mix of personalities, including Len Goodman, James Martin, Anthea Turner, Brian
Blessed and footballer John Barnes.

Alex Elliot, SPTI’s
executive director of nonscripted formats for Europe, said: “With its winning
of the Rose D’Or, we are seeing renewed interest in the Power of 10 format, a high-stakes
show for people with their fingers on the pulse of their nation. Both Twinzz and The 100 have proven to be highly popular in the Netherlands and I believe
that these shows provide some fantastic light entertainment opportunities for
broadcasters looking for family-oriented, prime-time shows.”
