New D-Day Doc to Premiere on Smithsonian Channel

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 2: To coincide with the 64th anniversary of D-Day, Smithsonian Channel will debut D-Day—The True Story of Omaha Beach, an original hour-long documentary featuring new revelations behind the historic event, on Friday, June 6, at 9 p.m.

D-Day—The True Story of Omaha Beach sheds new light on one of the iconic stories of World War II through personal testimony by U.S. survivors of the battle, interviews with historians and military experts from both sides of the Atlantic and reconstructions of battle scenes using state-of-the-art computer-generated imaging. The film provides new evidence revealing that the German defenses were far stronger than anticipated, including the recent discovery of a captured German map and the re-emergence of an entire German bunker hidden under the Normandy soil for more than 60 years.

D-Day—The True Story of Omaha Beach is a co-production with BBC Timewatch. It is produced and directed by James Hayes, with Simon Trew serving as a historical consultant and Bill Ratner as narrator.
