MTVNI Launches PSA for Burma Tragedy

NEW YORK, May 16: MTV
Networks International has teamed up with Ogilvy & Mather and filmmakers
from Shilo to create a public-service announcement asking the global community
to take action in the wake of the recent tragedy in Burma.

The 90-second spot will be
distributed to participating MTV networks worldwide and to video-sharing
websites, and displayed on MTV’s HD screen in New York City’s Times Square. The
PSA encourages viewers to visit noneofusarefree.org, a dedicated website that
raises awareness for the situation in Burma. The site, set up by the Burma Arts
Board, also provides a way for viewers to donate to the international Red
Cross.

“The
pictures of the shocking disaster in Burma are harrowing,” said Bill Roedy, the vice chairman of MTV Networks
International. “As days are lost in the delay to get international relief into
Burma, the situation grows more severe and the need for funds to help Burma's
people, is growing. To a people, who before this disaster were already
struggling against all odds, this spot is a message of solidarity. We urge the
global community to donate to the ongoing relief effort.”
