Sopranos Win Big at SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES, January 28:
At last night’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, top honors went to the mob
drama The Sopranos for the
show’s sixth and final season, with 30 Rock and The Office splitting the comedy wins, and No Country for
Old Men
winning out in the motion
picture category.

The cast of HBO’s The
Sopranos
took home the award for
outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, with stars James
Gandolfini and Edie Falco each winning out in the respective actor and actress
categories for their individual performances. The Sopranos beat out ABC’s Boston Legal and Grey’s Anatomy, TNT’s The Closer and AMC’s freshman hit Mad Men for the win.

Comedy nods went out to
Alec Baldwin for his role on NBC’s 30 Rock, with co-star Tina Fey also scoring a win for the
series. Another NBC series, The Office, beat out 30 Rock for
the best ensemble comedy, as well as fellow nominees ABC’s Desperate
Housewives
and Ugly Betty and HBO’s
Entourage.

Also acknowledged for
their performances were Queen Latifah as outstanding female in a TV
movie/mini-seres for the HBO telefilm Life Support, and Kevin Kline scored another win for HBO,
taking home the award for the network’s original adaptation of As You Like
It.

On the motion picture
side, the cast of No Country for Old Men, beat out 3:10 To Yuma, American Gangster, Hairspray and Into the Wild for the outstanding performance win, with Javier
Bardem receiving a nod for his supporting role in the film. Additional awards
for individual performances went to Daniel Day-Lewis for There Will Be Blood
and Julie Christie for Away
From Her
—for best actor and
best actress, respectively—and Ruby Dee for her supporting role in American
Gangster
.

This year also marked the
introduction of a new category to the awards, with The Bourne Ultimatum and 24 taking
home the first wins for outstanding performances by a stunt ensemble in film
and television.
