MTV China to Debut Unplugged Series

BEIJING/HONG KONG,
November 14: In January, MTV Networks China will premiere two MTV—Red
Bull Unplugged
concerts to one
billion viewers in the region through MTV China’s 24-hour channel and
syndication.

This marks MTV Networks
China’s first Unplugged series
for Chinese audiences. Sponsored by Red Bull, the concerts will feature Pu Shu
at Star Live in Beijing on December 15 and Yu Quan at Absolute House in
Shanghai on December 22.

Since its debut in 1989,
MTV’s Unplugged has emerged as
a popular live performance series, known for showcasing popular musical artists
in an intimate acoustic setting. Unplugged has received critical acclaim, spotlighting artists like Eric
Clapton, Neil Young, Nirvana, REM, and more recently Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, LL
Cool J, Ne-Yo and Joss Stone.

Li Yifei, the executive VP
and managing director for MTV Networks Greater China, said: “It is important to
showcase genuinely good music to the Chinese audience, MTV—Red Bull
Unplugged
is a platform where we
can bring artists together with their audience in a live and intimate setting.
As so many great musicians perform at their best live, we want to recreate that
environment for our MTV audience, in a format that has been a huge success for
MTV in the past.”
