The Singing Bee Delivers for NBC

BURBANK, July 12: On
Tuesday night, the launch of NBC’s new variety competition show The Singing
Bee
delivered the highest rating
among adults aged 18-49 for a new summer series premiere in nearly five years.

The series premiere of The
Singing Bee
notched up a 5.0
rating, and a 14-percent audience share among adults 18-49, with 13.1 million
viewers overall. At 9:30 p.m., the premiere dominated its time period among
adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures, overtaking FOX’s telecast
of Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. Preliminary averages show that the
premiere put NBC on top for Tuesday night among adults 18-49, with a 3.7 rating
and an 11-percent audience share.

The debut scored the
highest 18-49 rating and overall viewership of any summer series on any network
so far this year. Among overall viewers, The Singing Bee ranked as the most-watched new summer series
premiere in more than two years since the debut of ABC’s Dancing with the
Stars
in June 2005.

Hosted by Joey Fatone, The
Singing Bee
challenges contestants
to accurately sing the lyrics to popular songs, even when the band stops
playing. The show is produced by the Gurin Company and Juma Entertainment. It
is executive produced by Phil Gurin (NBC’s Miss Universe franchise) and Robert C. Horowitz.
