Subhash Chandra, Ronnie Screwvala to Keynote MIPCOM India Day

PARIS, July 5: India will be the country of focus at this
year’s MIPCOM, with Zee’s Subhash Chandra and UTV’s Ronnie Screwvala set to
deliver keynotes on India Day on October 8.

India Day, in partnership with the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)—which organizes the annual
Indian entertainment conference and exhibition, FICCI Frames—will examine
the growth and potential of the country's film, television and animation
sectors, and look at market-specific opportunities for global development.

Subhash Chandra, founder and chairman of the Zee Network and
the Essel Group of Companies, will discuss the growth of the Indian television
market and how new technology will impact the future. Ronnie Screwvala, the
founder and chairman of the UTV Group, will examine the key emerging sectors of
the Indian media market, especially film, animation and their international
development.

Television accounts for 65 percent of the Indian
entertainment market compared to 20 percent for cinema. According to the
research firm Media Partners Asia (MPA), India had 71 million TV homes last
year, 61 percent of which subscribe to pay TV. Penetration is expected to rise
to nearly 90 percent of an estimated 185 million television homes in 2015. The
DTH satellite market is set to grow from 2.6 million subscribers in 2006 to 38
million by 2015.

Paul Johnson, the director of the television division for
Reed MIDEM, noted: "In 2015, revenue from pay television and cable and
satellite channels in India will be the largest in Asia. India Day at MIPCOM
will display how vibrant, dynamic and talented the Indian entertainment
industry is and the opportunities it offers for the global television
industry."
