BBC Two Takes The Tudors

LONDON,
April 16: Showtime’s new hit drama The Tudors has been licensed to BBC Two for
a fall broadcast in a deal with Sony Pictures Television International.

The
ten-part drama, produced by Canada’s Peace Arch Entertainment, tells the story
of King Henry VIII in the tumultuous early years of his 40-year reign over
England. Its cast includes Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the lead role. It launched
on Showtime on April 1 and became the premium network’s best series debut in
three years.

Sue
Deeks, the head of series for BBC Programme Acquisition, noted: “The Tudors is a lavish, highly
entertaining and addictive historical drama which takes a fresh look at Henry
VIII. Jonathan Rhys Meyer's sexy and vital monarch completely dispels the image
of the older, overweight and infirm ruler—I know that BBC viewers will
really enjoy this contemporary take on the Tudor dynasty.”

Sony
Pictures Entertainment acquired the worldwide exclusive distribution rights
(excluding North America) to The Tudors in November 2006 for television,
DVD, mobile and new media.
