Fashion TV Pulled from Indian Airwaves

MUMBAI, April 3: According to wire reports, Fashion TV has
been banned from India for two months because of what local authorities have
deemed as content that is against “good taste and decency.”

India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is
targeting the channel for shows like Midnight Hot with its “skimpily dressed and semi-naked models.” The regulatory
authority said that the channel broadcasts programs that are “against good
taste and decency, denigrate women and are likely to adversely affect public
morality.”

This is the second time Fashion TV has been yanked from
Indian airwaves—it was banned in February 2002 for two weeks. Meanwhile,
earlier this year, Sony Pictures Television International’s AXN channel was
pulled for three weeks because of so-called “lewd” content in The World’s
Sexiest Advertisements
