Discovery En Español Garners Prime-time Ratings Gains

MIAMI, January 26: Discovery en Español achieved the highest prime-time ratings growth of any publicly reported Hispanic broadcast or pay-TV network over the past year, according to the Nielsen Hispanic Index.

In 2006, the ratings growth was highest among men aged 18-49, with a 78 percent increase from a 0.09 rating to 0.16. Among adults aged 18-49, there was a 50 percent increase, jumping from a 0.08 rating to a 0.12, and among total households, there was a 54 percent increase from a 0.13 rating to 0.20.

According to Simmons Rankings, Discovery en Español has also been ranked the highest non-general entertainment channel of all pay-TV Spanish language networks.

"Discovery en Español’s strong performance demonstrates that our strategy to provide Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States with culturally relevant and thought-provoking programming is bearing fruit," said Luis Silberwasser, the SVP and general manager of Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group.

Discovery en Español is in 39 percent of all U.S. Hispanic pay-TV homes within the Nielsen Hispanic Home Index, reaching more than 8 million total subscribers nationally.
