MTVNI Announces Winner of 48fest

TORONTO, August 18: The short Fear and Loathing won the best film award at MTV Networks International’s
48fest film competition, held as
part of the International AIDS Conference in Toronto.

The 48fest films will
be made available for broadcast across MTV's worldwide network of 50 TV
channels, 14 mobile TV channels, 18 broadband services and 44 websites. In
addition, the shorts will be compiled into a 30-minute documentary, Staying
Alive—48fest that will showcase the
films as well as behind-the-scenes footage. Offered rights-free and cost-free
to third-party broadcasters, the shorts and documentary will be available for
worldwide broadcast in September.

The competition challenged 48 youths to write, shoot, edit
and deliver in 48 hours a short film of three minutes on HIV and AIDS
grassroots efforts. The competition was comprised of eight teams of six
filmmakers from all over the world, who were also youth delegates to AIDS 2006.
Each team was assigned to create a film that focused on one of eight HIV and
AIDS-themed subjects, including condom use, delaying or abstaining from sex,
machismo, testing, violence against women, discrimination, stigma, and
vulnerable populations. A professional Canadian filmmaker accompanied the
teams.

"At MTV, we empower young people with the tools and
information needed to educate their peers and communities on HIV and
AIDS," said Georgia Arnold, the VP of public affairs at MTV Networks
International. "These young filmmakers took this platform and used it to
create films that shatter the myths and confront the stigma of one of the
deadliest diseases humanity has ever known."
