Disney+ Partners with Atresmedia in Spain

Disney+ customers in Spain will be able to access a curated selection of series from Atresmedia beginning this month as part of what both companies are hailing as a historic agreement.

On the heels of a similar content-sharing pact in the U.K. with ITV, Disney+ customers will have access to an atresplayer-branded section within the platform, delivering 300 hours per year of content produced in Spain.

Karl Holmes, managing director of Disney+ for EMEA, said: “Atresmedia offers quality local content, and adding hundreds of hours of this content to stream on Disney+ is excellent news for our customers in Spain. This agreement reflects our commitment to supporting local television stations across Europe, including our recent agreement in the United Kingdom with ITVX. This partnership is in line with our goal of offering a wide variety of quality stories of cultural relevance to our customers, complementing our own catalog, which continues to add original Disney+ series produced in Spain, such as the recent hit Ladrones: la tiara de santa Agueda or the upcoming La suerte: una serie de casualidades (A Series of Coincidences), which will premiere at the upcoming San Sebastian International Film Festival, as well as globally recognized films and series such as Lilo & Stitch and FX’s The Bear.”

“This pioneering and historic agreement with Disney+, one of the largest international streaming platforms, consolidates the leadership of Atresmedia and atresplayer, reaffirming the success of its innovative content exploitation strategy. It allows us to expand the reach of our productions, promoting Spanish talent and culture,” said Javier Bardají, CEO of Atresmedia. “This commitment has been part of our model and philosophy for decades and has allowed us to achieve international successes such as Gran Hotel, La Casa de Papel, Velvet, El Tiempo entre Costuras, Vis a Vis, Veneno, Alba and Entre Tierras, which have made their mark and paved the way for the rest of the sector. Therefore, this alliance also reinforces Atresmedia as a driving force and benchmark in our industry and confirms atresplayer as the leading Spanish platform and local hero in our country, with a track record of continuous growth.”
