Black Mirror, Line of Duty, The Crown Top BAFTA TV Nominations

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed the nominations for the annual Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards, which see Black Mirror, Line of Duty, The Crown and Three Girls each nominated in three categories.

The international category features Big Little Lies, Feud: Bette and Joan, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Vietnam War. Three Girls, The State, The Moorside and Howards End are nominated in the miniseries category. Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders, The Crown and The End of the F***ing World are nominated for best drama series. For best single drama, the nominees are Against the Law, Hang the DJ (Black Mirror), King Charles III and Murdered for Being Different. The programs nominated for soap/continuing drama are Casualty, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Up for the award for comedy entertainment program are Murder in Successville, Taskmaster, Would I Lie To You? and The Last Leg. Among the scripted comedy nominees are Catastrophe, Chewing Gum, This Country and Timewasters. The nominated entertainment programs are Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and The Voice UK.

Celebrity Hunted, Love Island, Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds and The Real Full Monty are nominated in the category of reality and constructed factual. Factual nominees are Ambulance, Catching a Killer, Drugsland and Hospital.

Performance categories cover female lead in a comedy, which boasts as nominees Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland), Daisy May Cooper (This Country), Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and Sian Gibson (Peter Kay’s Car Share). The male performance nominees for comedy are Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Rob Brydon (The Trip to Spain), Samson Kayo (Famalam) and Toby Jones (Detectorists).

The leading actress nominees for TV feature Claire Foy (The Crown), Molly Windsor (Three Girls), Sinead Keenan (Little Boy Blue) and Thandie Newton (Line of Duty). The lead actor nominees are Jack Rowan (Born to Kill), Joe Cole (Black Mirror‘s Hang the DJ), Sean Bean (Broken) and Tim Pigott-Smith (King Charles III). Supporting nominees in the actor category are Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty), Anupam Kher (The Boy with the Topknot), Brian F. O’Byrne (Little Boy Blue) and Jimmi Simpson (Black Mirror‘s USS Callister). The nominees for supporting actress are Anna Friel (Broken), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Broadchurch), Liv Hill (Three Girls) and Vanessa Kirby (The Crown). The nominees for entertainment performance are Adam Hills (The Last Leg), Graham Norton (The Graham Norton Show), Michael McIntyre (Michael McIntyre’s Big Show) and Sandi Toksvig (QI).

Virgin TV’s must-see moment in 2018, which the public will vote on, sees as nominees Blue Planet II (mother pilot whale grieves), Doctor Who (the 13th Doctor revealed), Game of Thrones (Viserion is killed by the Night King), Line of Duty (Huntley’s narrow escape), Love Island (Stormzy makes a surprise appearance) and One Love Manchester (Ariana Grande sings “One Last Time”).

The ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, May 13, and will be hosted by Sue Perkins.
