Russell T Davies to Receive Edinburgh TV Festival Honor

Television screenwriter and producer Russell T Davies has been selected to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival.

Davies revived Doctor Who in 2005 and created the spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. More recently, Davies created the trilogy Cucumber, Banana and Tofu for Channel 4. During the festival, he will take part in an on-stage conversation with Nicola Shindler, the founder of Red Production Company, to discuss creating such series as Queer as Folk, Bob & Rose, The Second Coming and Casanova.

The award will be presented to Davies by Shindler on August 24, and the conversation between the two will follow on August 25.

Diederick Santer, the festival’s advisory chair, said: “I am delighted that Russell is returning to the TV Festival to receive our Outstanding Achievement Award. He’s the man behind some of the nation’s favorite dramas, and his career continues to be incredibly successful and remarkably varied. I am very excited to hear what will no doubt be an insightful and funny look back over 30 years of great work.

“And with his long-term collaborator Nicola Shindler of Red asking the questions, we can be sure there’ll be no holds barred.”
