NEW YORK: Here is a rundown of all the exclusive interviews and in-depth trend features you’ll find in the MIPTV issue of World Screen.

Amid all the talk about borders, walls and nationalism today, audiences worldwide are boldly embracing a new vision of globalism when it comes to their viewing habits. Turkish series are being devoured in Latin America, Korean and Indian soaps are finding new audiences in Europe and Americans are eagerly dispensing with the notion that they won’t watch subtitled shows.

The power of international storytelling, from drama to formats, high-end documentaries to enriching children’s content, is on display across our ambitious MIPTV edition. European television, in particular, is in the spotlight this MIPTV. Our main feature explores the gains being seen by European distributors, as well as the challenges the region is facing, from the fears of a disintegrating EU in the wake of Brexit to the complexities of the looming digital single market legislation. This special report on European television includes Q&As with Sky’s Jeremy Darroch, ProSiebenSat.1’s Thomas Ebeling, ZDF’s Thomas Bellut, FremantleMedia’s Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Endemol Shine’s Sophie Turner Laing, all3media’s Jane Turton, Bonnier’s Casten Almqvist, ITV’s Kevin Lygo, Gaumont’s Christophe Riandee, DR’s Maria Rørbye Rønn, Sherlock and Doctor Who’s Steven Moffat, Tele München’s Herbert Kloiber, Atresmedia’s Javier Bardají, Lookout Point’s Simon Vaughan and Beta Film’s Jan Mojto.

We also hear from four well-known stars about how their shows have universal resonance. Gracing the cover is Michael Weatherly, who became a global megastar in NCIS and is now entertaining audiences in the CBS hit Bull. Pierce Brosnan weighs in on his return to television in AMC’s new period piece The Son. Audiences are eagerly anticipating Elisabeth Moss’s return to the small screen in The Handmaid’s Tale and the second season of Top of the Lake. And Freida Pinto discusses her turn in the new Showtime and Sky Atlantic event series Guerrilla.
