Iflix Poaches Netflix Exec to Lead Content Strategy

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES/KUALA LUMPUR: Netflix alum Sean Carey has joined iflix Group in the role of chief content officer as the SVOD service for emerging markets rolls out in its tenth country.

Carey has more than two decades of experience in digital media, content acquisition and distribution, as well as strategic planning. He most recently served as VP of global television at Netflix, where he was responsible for all licensed television series, kids’ and family content and co-productions in all territories. Prior to Netflix, Carey held executive roles in strategic content, digital distribution and corporate development at Sony Corporation and its filmed entertainment subsidiary, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Iflix’s group co-founder and CEO, Mark Britt, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Sean, one of the world’s foremost content experts and strategists, to the iflix family. James Bridges, who previously served as chief content officer, will continue to lead iflix’s content acquisition strategy in his new role as global acquisitions director, reporting to Carey. Carey will be based in L.A.

Additionally, iflix has launched in Myanmar, marking the tenth country in which the streaming service is now available. Consumers can sign up for a free one-month trial via iflix’s website or by downloading the app to their phones or tablets via Google Play or the App Store. The Myanmar rollout follows one week after the company’s launch in Vietnam.
