MADRID: As of today, the Olympic Channel is being offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish, in addition to English.

This marks the first time the Olympic Channel is available in non-English languages on the global digital platform. In addition to the multi-language user interface, viewers can continue to watch original content with subtitles in one of ten languages, a feature that has been offered since the network first launched in August 2016.

The Olympic Channel will present four additional languages—Arabic, Japanese, Korean and Russian—in the coming months. The network is also working with broadcast partners and the National Olympic Committees to develop localized versions that will feature region- and language-specific user experiences on linear and digital platforms.

“This is a great way to reach more people around the world and to tell the great Olympic stories in a way that connects directly to them,” said Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “The launch of the Olympic Channel platform in multiple languages ensures that more fans around the world will be able to discover and explore stories that will help them to connect with their favorite sports and athletes in their own language.”

“Language and localization features are a high priority for us in 2017,” added Mark Parkman, the general manager of the Olympic Channel. “The availability of six additional languages on the global digital platform is a significant step in the Olympic Channel’s evolution as we look to create more personalized user experiences for Olympic fans around the world.”
