Netflix to Expand to Australia, New Zealand

LOS GATOS: Netflix has confirmed its plans to expand to Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

The streaming service will venture to the two new markets in March. At launch, original offerings will include Marco Polo, BoJack Horseman and kids' fare like DreamWorks Animation’'s All Hail King Julien. The service will also deliver docs like Virunga and Mission Blue and stand-up specials like Uganda Be Kidding Me, Live, from Chelsea Handler and Jim Jefferies’s BARE. The lineup will eventually be expanded to include the upcoming originals Bloodline, Marvel’'s Daredevil and Sense8.

More details on pricing, programming and supported devices will come at a later date. The service is currently available outside of the U.S. in Canada, Latin America, the U.K. and Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

In Australia, Netflix arrives in a landscape that includes Stan, the new SVOD service from Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media that has been buying up a host of content, including Better Call Saul, ahead of its launch in early 2015; Quickflix and FOXTEL's Presto.
