Olympic TV Channel Receives Support at Summit

LAUSANNE: A summit of key IOC executives, sports federation heads and Olympics committee leaders has backed the creation of a year-round Olympic TV channel.

The Olympic Summit convened in Lausanne this past weekend to discuss various issues, including a new bidding process and the creation of an Olympic TV channel. The IOC said the leaders at the summit supported the idea, "recognizing the potential to greatly increase the presence of sports and the promotion of the Olympic values year round and worldwide. The IOC will contact all the relevant stakeholders in the coming months to further develop the concept."

The Summit included IOC chief Thomas Bach, as well as the heads of the Association of National Olympic Committees, the IOC Athletes Commission, the International Federation of Gymnastics, the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations, and the U.S., Chinese and Russian Olympic Committees, among others.
