Matthew Weiner to Receive International Emmy Founders Award

NEW YORK: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has selected Matthew Weiner, the creator, executive producer, writer and director of Mad Men, as the recipient of this year's International Emmy Founders Award.

Weiner will accept the Award at the 42nd International Emmy Awards Gala on Monday, November 24, in New York City. In addition to Mad Men, Weiner's credits include having served as an executive producer and writer on The Sopranos and writer on a number of TV comedies, including The Naked Truth, Becker and Andy Richter Controls the Universe. He also wrote and directed the feature film Are You Here, which hits theaters late summer.

“With Mad Men, Matthew Weiner redefined period television and created a global cultural phenomenon that has dramatically changed the television landscape,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of the International Academy. “We look forward to honoring his creative talent with our Founders Award, a few weeks before the final episodes of this great series.”
