Argentina’s Inclusion Pulls Double International Emmy Wins

NEW YORK: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences celebrated the winners of the 40th International Emmy Awards last night at a gala in New York City, where, for the first time ever, both of the performance categories were won by an actor and actress from the same series, Argentina’s Television x La Inclusion.

The double win for Television x La Inclusion went to Darío Grandinetti for his portrayal of Mario in the series, and Cristina Banegas for her role as Paula. Along with Argentina, this year’s winners hail from Australia, Brazil, France, Germany and the U.K.

The Invisible Woman (Brazil) was named best comedy, while Braquo season two was named best drama. In the category for arts programming, Songs of War (Germany) came out on top. The Amazing Race Australia (Australia) was selected as the best non-scripted entertainment program. In another win for Brazil, The Illusionist won best telenovela. Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die (U.K.) took the statue in the documentary category. Also from the U.K., Black Mirror was picked for best TV movie/mini-series.

The two-time Academy Award- and Emmy-winner Jessica Lange took to the stage to present the International Emmy Founders Award to Ryan Murphy, the creator of such hit series as Glee, American Horror Story (which Lange stars in) and Nip/Tuck. Murphy himself later presented two special 40th anniversary Founders Awards, one to Alan Alda (M*A*S*H*) and one to Normal Lear (All in the Family). The International Emmy Directorate Award was presented by musician and producer J.Y. Park to Dr. Kim In-Kyu, the president and CEO of the Korean Broadcasting System. The U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon taped a special address for Dr. Kim In-Kyu as well. Regis Philbin was master of ceremonies for the evening.

"The International Academy is proud to be shining the spotlight on the world’s best television programming and performances, for the last 40 years, and we congratulate tonight’s winners for their outstanding achievements as they enter into Emmy history," said Bruce L. Paisner, the president of the Academy.
