TEL AVIV: The CW has bought Armoza Formats’ Danny Hollywood, a comedy format based on an Israeli musical drama.

Danny Hollywood is distributed internationally by Armoza Formats and sold to CBS TV Studios, which then sold it to The CW. A script order was greenlit, with Mark Harmon (NCIS), Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men) and Martha Haight signed on to executive produce with Bert V Royal (Easy A) writing.

Danny Hollywood, a successful daily drama in Israel, is about a young, 21st century documentary filmmaker who tries to solve the mystery behind the death of the country’s most beloved rock music icon, Danny Hollywood. She goes back in time to the year 1968, where she falls in love with Danny and attempts to prevent his death. In Israel, the series aired on Yes Stars in daily half-hour installments. It was created and produced by Tmira Yardeni and Ori Gross.

Avi Armoza, the CEO of Armoza Formats, said: "This is our fourth deal this year in the U.S., which has become one of our key markets. With 200 episodes scripted and produced in Israel, there’s great potential for a successful, long-running series in the U.S. based on the material, especially as Danny’s target audience—women 18 to 34—matches The CW’s. We’re excited about this partnership and look forward to developing Danny for the U.S. market.”
