SILVER SPRING: In continuing the global rollout of TLC, Discovery Networks International has scored new launches for the channel in Africa, Denmark, Finland, Latin America and Portugal, with the network to reach more than 100 million households as of November 2.

TLC launches in Finland and November 1, followed by a next-day launch in Portugal. In Latin America, Discovery Travel & Living will become TLC as of November 1, available in 38 countries across the region.

On October 6, the channel debuted in Denmark to 1 million households. That was followed on October 14 with the launch of TLC in a further 46 countries across Africa through MultiChoice. The sub-Saharan pay-TV operator will air TLC on Africa’s digital DStv service, which has 3.5 million subscribers. TLC is also available on Top TV in South Africa.

As of November 2, 2011, TLC will be available in nearly 170 markets and more than 100 million households outside the U.S. In the U.S., the channel is a top 10 network for women and one of the fastest-growing female lifestyle channels.

“On the heels of TLC’s successful launches across Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific, the upcoming debut of TLC in Latin America, Finland, and Portugal, the network now reaches 170 markets and more than 100 million households internationally, and 200 million worldwide,” said Mark Hollinger, the president and CEO of Discovery Networks International. “TLC’s brand strength and programming diversity has become a powerful complement to the Discovery Channel brand—and the strong ratings generated by both TLC programming from the United States and original series created by DNI’s production team are already attracting loyal audiences in multiple markets around the world."
